100% Tempranillo
Rich neon color imparted by the Tempranillo that is closer to red than pink in the glass. Green apple and cherry flavors on the very aromatic nose. Clean and bright in the mouth, which makes it very easy to drink. Fresh strawberry flavors across the palate with a dry clean finish that lingers a touch, especially for a rose. Simply put, it’s a very good wine for hot weather that invites one back to the bottle for more.
Bodega Via Tuelda (Ribera Del Duero, Spain)
Via Tuelda is located in Spains northerly Ribera del Duero wine region, in the village of Villa tuelda, which is so small that is often not found on maps. Wine has been produced in the region for millenia, but viticulture really took off after the arrival of Benedictine monks in the early Middle Ages. The village area is studded with small wine cellars dug deep in the sandstone, still much in private use today, which are a testimony to the deep rooted wine traditions existing here. Fernandez Montao, the winemaker of Via Tuelda is one of the more innovative winemakers of the region, and also no less than the nephew of Mariano Garcia, who was the head winemaker of Vega Sicilia. The region is well known for its extreme climatic conditions; long, dry summers with temperatures of up to 105F that are followed by harsh winters during which temperatures may fall as low as 0F. The main grape varietals grown here are Tempranillo (also known as Tinta Fina or Tinta del Pas), as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Crianza, a blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Merlot, is fermented in stainless steel tanks, and then barrel aged in French and American oak for 12 months, not to be released until two years after the vintage date. Elegant and wonderfully expressive, these wines frequently garner prizes throughout Spain and Europe.
