About the Producer
Domaine du Tix (Côte de Ventoux)
Nestled below the lofty Mont-Ventoux in northern Provence, the Domaine du Tix occupies a breathtaking natural site among the sun drenched stone terraces, or “restanques,” harking back to Roman times. It is no wonder that owners, Philippe Danel and Marie Pirsch, after long and senior careers in textile and fashion, fell in love with this charming estate, planted with old vines, and decided to make high quality wines. The domaine’s 6 hectares are spread on the south slope of Mont Ventoux between the villages of Mormoiron and Blauvac, and benefit from clay and limestone laden soils. The “Cuvée des Grandes Pointes” is made from 100% Viognier of forty year old vines, and stems from the estate’s smallest parcel (two hectares). Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, after which 50% is aged in oak (1/3 new oak, 1/3 one-year old barrel, 1/3 two-year old barrel) with a stirring of lees over a six month period. This allows attaining a lovely and harmonious balance between body, intense aromatic expression and freshness.
