Tasting Note
About the Producer
Seductive and wonderfully exotic nose of smoky spice, citrus and flowers leading to bigger, richer, and fuller flavors. Mouth filling. Solidly precise and tangy finish that shows a touch more citrus and vanilla. Very good balance and will serve well with meals that range from light chicken and fish all the way to un-sauced veal. 25% new oak is used to provide spice and richness, but is completely integrated into the complex fruit and minerality of the wine. Will drink best from 2012-2014+.
Domaine Bouzereau et fils
(Burgundy)
Michel Bouzereau comes from a large winemaking family based in the village of Meursault and has held the post of President of the Burgundy Growers Union. His is a voice to be heard, and what he likes to talk about is the traditional way of making wine. The Bouzereaus ferment their wines in cask, and give their wines nine months on the lees to impart as much flavor as possible. Determined that his wines will smell and taste only of wine, the importance of new wood is acknowledged but downplayed. Michel's son, Jean Baptiste (the 14th generation Bouzereau on this land), is now in charge of making the wines from this eleven hectare estate and has recently moved the winery from his fathers home to his new facility. Jean-Baptiste has respected his father's traditionalist practices, but he has instilled a fresher element to the wines which only enhances their appeal. These wines are benchmark examples for each of the vineyards represented. They can also age better than could be expected; the premiere crus of a good vintage will develop beautifully for 10+ years.
