Rich, dark color. Huge wild nose with dark fruit, coffee, leather, and hazelnut. Smooth and silky mid palate with a berry fruit blast. Lingering finish that returns to the nose in profile. Big wine that balances the sophistication we expect from a De Toren wine, and the fruit we want from a southern hemisphere Shiraz.
DDS stands for Den Dulk and Siddle. Mark Siddle and wife Eva own Domaine Bertagne in Burgundy. Domaine Bertagne is a Grand Cru and Premier Cru producer. Emil Den Dulk is the proprietor of De Toren Winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. De Toren Private Cellar sits on the slopes of the Polkadraai Hills and covers a total area of 26 hectares, of which 21.9 are under vines. The vineyards are broken up into the five red Bordeaux varietals, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot that yield around 8 tons per hectare for the winery. Producing South Africa's first five-varietal blend was a milestone in itself. The maiden batch of “Fusion V” hit the international market towards the end of the year 2000 and has since gone on to win many awards and accolades.
The entire production cycle at De Toren Private Cellar has resulted in “Fusion V” becoming one of the first South African wines to qualify for IP (Integrated Production) certification. It is awarded by the Wine and Spirit Board and will serve as an environmentally friendly stamp of approval. Says Emil, "Our commitment to a quality product and first class service and distribution is absolute. Profit margin is not my main concern; satisfied consumers are!”
