Rich neon color imparted by the Tempranillo that is closer to red than pink in the glass. Green apple and cherry flavors on the very aromatic nose. Clean and bright in the mouth, which makes it very easy to drink. Fresh strawberry flavors across the palate with a dry clean finish that lingers a touch, especially for a rose. Simply put, it’s a very good wine for hot weather that invites one back to the bottle for more.

The 2007 La Mine offers a bright nose of spice and muted fruit. The varietal, cabernet franc, shows itself with a touch of graphite on the nose blended with influences from oak. The full texture of the wine in the mouth is very pleasing and with a surprising amount of balanced acid that often lacks in Viognier. Just off clear in the glass, the nose on the 2008 viognier is subtle with notes of flowers, white peach, wet stones and a touch of melon. The Melville Santa Rita Highlands Pinot Noir from 2009 is darker in the glass pushing opaque and tips the scales at 14.1% alcohol. It smells of dark cherry, almost cherry cola in nature, and violets. It has a mouth-coating texture. The full fruit and full body make a dramatic impact on the palate and the finish is more akin to a heavier red wine with some polyphenols that stick to one’s teeth. It has some astringency from tannin as well. The flavors are ripe fruit, a little leather, tobacco and spice. The finish here is big and upfront. This pinot requires full flavored foods, even a lean steak off the grill. Drink now or cellar for 3-5 years.

Plenty of ripeness on the nose as would be expected from 2007. Peach, gardenias, and some tropical flavors on the nose. Balanced acid offsets the ripeness of the fruit that covers the palate. The finish is surprisingly mineral driven given the fruit forward nose indicating that the viognier was harvested on time without developing any flabbiness at all. Given the ripeness of the vintage, drink it now. Enjoy with fish, cream based soups, or on its own. 1,150 cases made.
